The year 2009 brought a pop culture phenomenon that allowed for creative Halloween costumes and new ways to find an excuse to imbibe. The Snuggie, a blanket with sleeves, which is known from the infomercial as “an all comfortable and effective way to read a book or drink some tea with free hands.”

So what better way to put that Snuggie to use by attending a pub crawl where everyone has to wear one while they drink?

The Snuggfest, which took place in Scottsdale on Jan. 30, was an event organized to give back to the community. The pub crawl benefited 100 Club of Arizona, which helps families of fallen police officers and firefighters and Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

On the crawl, snuggie-wearing bar hoppers were given drink specials, raffle prizes, gift cards and vacations.

The event began at Sandbar where fellow patrons took pictures in their newly-decorated snuggies and pre-gamed before hopping on a bus that would take them to Eli’s, Ernies, Dirty Dogg Saloon and then back to the Sandbar at the end of the crawl.

The owner, Noah Finley, had heard people were doing Snuggie pub crawls on the east coast and decided to bring it to Scottsdale.

“Anytime there is an opportunity to day drink for a good cause you can count on the Sandbar,” Finley says.

What’s next on the list for pub-crawlers? Let us know!
