Jump Street: A Bouncing Hot Spot in Chandler

Tucked into an industrial park in north Chandler, Jump Street doesn’t look like much from the outside. However, once inside, potential jumpers are immediately greeted by 100 feet of jet-black trampolines. And that’s the draw here.

The large jumping area that is the focal point of Jump Street is actually made up of 12 long trampolines placed side by side. The trampoline edges tilt up at 45-degree angles, so jumpers can bounce off the sides. Two dodge ball courts, and a kids’ area with three trampolines and  inflated slides are also available for bouncing.

Melinton Teni, an Electrical Engineering  junior, recently went with a large group of friends.“The more people went, the more awesome it was,” Teni says. He also noticed that the people who came but didn’t jump had a lot less fun.

The one objection Teni had to Jump Street was wallet-related (“$10 is … a pretty steep price for an hour.”) Jump Street has specials Monday through Thursday, but on the weekends it’s $10 for the first hour of jumping, and $6 for every hour after.

Interested parties can command the dodge ball courts any time Jump Street is open, official dodge ball matches are held every Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

On the Jump Street Web site, an arcade is advertised, but it turned out to be just three video games and an air hockey table. But gaming is not why Kelsey Pitts, a senior at McClintock High School and a former gymnast, goes Jump Street. “I come for the cardio,” she says. “You just have fun and go for flips and stuff.”

According to manager Devan Grey, Jump Street opened in late October, but advertising was almost non-existent. Slowly, however, its popularity increased through word-of-mouth, and now it is busy almost every night.

“We get lots of college students,” Grey says “We’ve even had a bachelor party.”

It is located pretty far from campus, but the draw of flips, handsprings and cartwheels, all on giant trampolines, could definitely turn Jump Street into a student hot spot.
