It’s a few weeks into the semester and already students are looking for something to take their minds off brutal classes. Luckily, the Student Recreation Complex offers intramural sports events to help ease academic pain. Here’s just a preview:

(No athletic experience is required.)

1. For backyard baseball players, the wiffleball tournament is held on Feb. 13 and 14. Although typically played in the grass behind a best friend’s house, this edition takes place in the SRC Maroon Gym, probably to avoid the inevitable grass stains. The entry cost per team is $35, and each team must be between five and eight players. Unfortunately, according to the rules posted online, no base stealing is allowed.

2. This next sport was made famous by Vince Vaughn and Chuck Norris. On Feb.27 and 28, the SRC hosts a Dodgeball tournament on the tennis courts. A nice pair of running shoes is advised, but the balls will be provided. Not sure how to play? Just watch this informative video. The team roster can have anywhere from six to 12 people and costs $35 per team. Rounding up friends to be on a team shouldn’t be a problem, and you even get to pick a team name. Purple Cobras!

3. The sand volleyball courts in front of the SRC is where the 4v4 sand volleyball league will take place. While volleyball is always fun to play, this league may be for the more experienced athlete. There are men’s, women’s, and CoRec leagues available to join. The cost here is $50 a team, but with sand and swimsuits, how can you go wrong?

4. The Ultimate Frisbee tournament is on April 10 and 11th. For those who have never played, Ultimate Frisbee is a version of touch football (but with a Frisbee). Each team must have seven players, but can have up to 12 on the roster. Unfortunately, no movie has been made about Ultimate Frisbee, but since bowling, ice skating, and Jamaican bobsledding have all been covered, an Frisbee movie is likely in the future.

5. The SRC also offers intramural soccer, basketball and badminton, among other sports. Visit the SRC website for the complete list of events, and for sign up information. And have fun out there this semester!
