Ah, the smell of chocolate-covered funnel cake. The carnival is in town, er, in Arizona Mills Mall.
Nestled between Panda Express and Suki-Hana is Festival Foods, the new restaurant in the Mills food court complete with cotton candy, festive balloons and a spin-to-win wheel. The menu boasts popular fair foods such as fry bread, gyros and cheese curly fries (most meals are around $6).
The meals are massive and flow over the edges of the plates and (true to fair food stands everywhere) they smell and taste almost exactly like they would beneath a Ferris wheel.
The hamburger on a pretzel bun isn’t much to look at, but don’t be fooled by its looks. It actually tastes pretty good. The curly fries are cooked until crisp and are sprinkled with plenty of salt. But the main attraction of this fair foodie frenzy isn’t the main course — it’s what’s for dessert.
Deep-fried Twinkies or Snickers on a stick and funnel cake are just a few of the dessert options at Festival Foods that all come smothered in chocolate, powdered sugar and strawberry sauce. Even though Festival Foods does a good job making its food look, taste and smell like it does at the fair, waiting to satisfy that funnel cake craving might be a good idea.
