Top 5: Upcoming Movies

by Rheyanne Weaver on November 24, 2009

Though students are ready to take a break, the movie industry isn’t and is ready to entertain the masses with a few unique upcoming films:

1) Avatar – The storyline seems to be decent, involving a battle between the human military and the inhabitants of an alien planet, Pandora. However, just the promise of  innovative top-notch special effects, sci-fi and a cool blue alien is good enough. Plus, you can see it in 3-D. Release date is Dec. 18.

2) The Lovely Bones - The popular novel by Alice Sebold is now a movie. The story is of a girl who is murdered by her neighbor and watches her family heal from Heaven, or a sort of in-between place, as the trailer says. The release date is Dec. 18.

3) Nine – This movie is based on the Broadway production and film 8 1/2, which discuss the life of a well-known movie director, Guido Contino, who happened to have a lot of women in his life. This cast is sure to win awards, with Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz and many other known actors. The release date is Dec. 18.

4) Transylmania - Yes, it’s time for a vampire spoof movie. College students spend a semester abroad in Romania where, of course, vampires lurk. The tagline is enough: “College kids. The other white meat.” The release date is Dec. 4.

5) Legion - Prepare for a slew of eerie movies this winter, including Daybreakers, Shutter Island, Wolfman and Night of the Demons. Legion is about a group of rebels who fight against the destruction of mankind by God, who tires of unworthy sinners. It’s sure to thrill with special effects and a unique storyline regardless. The release date is Jan. 22, 2010.
