Website Review: MyBrute

Mercilessly fighting to the animated, not-so-gruesome death three times a day at mybrute.com is addictive.

Mybrute.com works on a simple premise: Choose a name and the site will design a “brute” match. Users can tinker with the looks of their brute, but the assigned traits, such as strength and agility, will be solely determined by the name choice and will not be revealed until the brute is validated.

Once the brute is created, users fight against other brutes. But, instead of controlling the brutes’ actions like most fighting games, owners of brutes can only passively sit and watch as their brutes dominate or get crushed. While this may sound like it takes the fun out of playing, it possibly makes it more fun. It’s the thrill of horse races, except with more cartoonish violence, pet bears and no lost money at the finish line.

Brutes can only fight three times a day, but with each fight they gain points to level up as well as earning weapons and skills to help them in combat. Users can also recruit others to make a brute and be their disciple, which earns the “master” points every time the disciple levels up. This can cause a rather rabid obsession with recruiting others to play. Speaking of recruiting, if anyone would like to make a brute of their own, they can feel free to head on over to foxy-mcg.mybrute.com to become the disciple of the fabulously bleach blonde mulleted macho man that is Foxy McG.
