CD review: Dananananaykroyd – “Hey Everyone!”

by lburke on April 29, 2009

3.5 out of 5

The difficult to spell Scottish band Dananananaykroyd’s first full-length album, “Hey Everyone!” is a little left of the same old, same old.
The type of music Dananananaykroyd makes is often referred to as “fight-pop,” which seems extremely fitting. The music is hard and fast, but certainly not metal or hard rock. This music is the angry teenage sister of twee — the Daria of the music family. It’s sharp and can be off-putting at times, but, between all the agonized yelling, there are moments of fun and sheer brilliance as well. It might take a few listens, but there’s a good chance this band will grow on listeners like a powerful moss.

If one is looking for something a little meaner, but not necessarily Ozzfest material, while still keeping a fun spirit, Dananananaykroyd might be the perfect match.
